Karen Alexander is an Australian public sculptor and ceramic artist, with a studio practice based in the picturesque Southern Highlands, NSW on Gundungurra Land.
Alexander holds strong foundations in traditional sculpture making techniques, mentored by renowned Australian sculptor Tom Bass AM. Accomplished in a diverse range of mediums including ceramics, plaster, wax, cast bronze and cast aluminium. Her work powerfully captures the stories of community and the human experience.
Alexander’s practice is deeply influenced by figurative studies, with sculptural forms that embody a profound sense of humanity. Her intention is to foster an emotional connection between the artwork and the viewer, inviting reflection and engagement.
Her studio, surrounded by nature, inspired a series of ceramic sculptures. Alexander completed a Diploma of Ceramics in 2023, further developing layered glaze processes.
With numerous public sculptures and private commissions to her name, Alexander’s work is distinguished by its emotional depth and storytelling, shaping themes of history, place, and a shared journey within the natural environment.
