Bill Brown & Jack Blackham, Bronze Busts, 2006 & 2008
Bronze busts created for the Australian Test Caption’s Walk in Jubilee Park, Cootamundra. Busts were created from historic photos and references.
Bill Brown played 22 Test matches between 1934 to 1948 and captained his country for one Test. A right-handed opening batsman, his partnership with Jack Fingleton in the 1930’s is regarded as one of the finest in Australian Test history.
Jack Blackham, known as the ‘Prince of wicketkeepers’, changed the game of cricket by standing up to the stumps and dispensing with the ‘longstop’ position. Jack was unflinching, using thin leather gloves to protect his hands. He captained Australia eight times from 1884 to 1895.
